MANOS KOUNOUGAKIS

He was born in September 1985 in Heraklion, Crete and lives in Athens where he works as an English language teacher and playwriting instructor.

He is a graduate of the Department of English Studies of the University of Athens. He also completed a Master’s Degree in U.S. Literature at the University of Essex. His postgraduate dissertation focuses on the Greek influences of H.D.’s poetry. He also started a Ph.D. dissertation about the notions of order and authority in Nathaniel Lee’s tragedies.

He writes and translates drama, poetry and prose. His literary work has been published in Greece and abroad such as, for example, the British literary magazine Focus and the American literary magazines Scifaikuest and Illumen. He has attended various literary workshops in Greece and abroad. For instance, he was a student of the Nobel Prize winner, Derek Walcott, in Britain. Some of his plays, poems and stories have been awarded in Greek and international competitions such as the Vladimir Devidé Haiku Award of the International Academic Forum. He was also a nominee in 2014 and 2016 Dwarf Stars Awards of the American Science Fiction Poetry Association.

Translations of his have been published in magazines and anthologies such as Odysseus: A Greek Myth (Patakis, 2013) and Living/Writing: Inner and Outer Landscapes of Irish and Greek Poets (Peter Lang, 2018). He was the editor of the Greek literary webzine Chalice (2014-2017) and co-editor of the Bangladeshi literary webzine Prachya Review (2015-2017). He is the cocreator of the website PlayGRound which hosts modern Greek plays.
